I just found a new method on how to make pressed flower bookmarks that I am pretty excited to share with you.
How to Press Flowers for Bookmarks:
Pressing flowers for bookmarks is a simple yet rewarding process that allows you to preserve the natural beauty of blooms.
You will need a flower press. I love a wooden flower press, and flower press kits like this one come with all of the materials you need to press flowers.
You will trim your flowers and arrange them evenly onto your blotting paper or lining paper. You will cover the flowers with a sponge and close with the top press board. For a full tutorial on how to press flowers, click here.
Pressed Flowers for Purchase
I personally love a flower press, because I can press unlimited flowers whenever I want. But, if flower pressing just doesn't sound like your thing, you can 100% buy pressed flowers already made. Here are some my favorite recommendations for high-quality pressed flowers that are durable and will be perfect for a variety of crafts and ship right to your front door.
Various Ways to Make Pressed Flower Bookmarks:
Now that you have your pressed flowers ready, it's time to get creative with making pressed flower bookmarks. Here are some of my favorite ways to make them:
Laminated Pressed Flower Bookmark:
-Open a laminate sheet
- Arrange pressed flowers on the area you will be trimming for a bookmark
-Close the laminate sheet over the pressed flowers
-Run the laminate sheet through the laminator machine
- Trim bookmark to desired size and shape
- Punch a hole at the top and thread a ribbon or string
Transparent Bottle Pressed Flower Bookmark:
-Open the bookmark by pulling up the tab
-Place your pressed flowers inside
-Confirm that your flowers are where you want them
-Close the laminated tab back down over your pressed flowers
-No glue required. These are an easy project for little ones, too.
Resin-Encased Pressed Flower Bookmark:
-Pressed flower bookmark resin is such a fun way to preserve and showcase pressed flowers while reading
- Arrange pressed flowers in a silicone mold.
- Mix clear epoxy resin according to the manufacturer's instructions and pour it over the flowers.
- Allow the resin to cure completely before removing the bookmark from the mold.
Mod Podge Pressed Flower Bookmark:
-Plan out your arrangement. I like to play with where I will place the flowers prior to glueing them so I know how many pressed flowers I will need and how I want to layer them.
- Arrange pressed flowers on a piece of cardstock or paper.
-Apply a small amount of Mod Podge onto the card stock where you will be placing the pressed flowers. (If it is easier, you can place the glue on the back of the flower).
-Place the pressed flower onto the glue (or the area you want to place it.
- Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge over the flowers to seal them in place.
- Once dry, trim any excess paper and add decorative elements such as ribbons or tassels.
Is Mod Podge Good for Pressed Flowers?
Yes, Mod Podge is a popular choice for sealing and preserving pressed flowers in crafts such as bookmarks. Its adhesive properties help to secure the delicate petals in place, while its clear finish adds a protective layer and enhances the colors of the flowers. However, it's essential to apply Mod Podge sparingly to avoid saturating the flowers and causing them to lose their delicate appearance.
Pressed Flower Stickers Bookmarks:
Since I found these pressed flower stickers, I have been going a little crazy putting them on everything. But, when I made a bookmark with them, I WAS HOOKED. It was the perfect craft to share with my three year old. She loved it.
I purchased these clear acrylic bookmarks, and just applied the stickers onto the bookmark. I love this look with a lot of flowers or just a few. So simple, there is no glue needed.
Pressed flower bookmarks are not only practical accessories but also beautiful works of art that bring a touch of nature into your reading routine. Whether you prefer a simple design or want to experiment with resin or Mod Podge, there's no limit to the creativity you can unleash with pressed flower bookmarks. So, gather your favorite blooms, unleash your imagination, and embark on a journey of crafting beauty with pressed flower bookmarks that will enchant and delight readers of all ages.
